After visiting this designated historic village, go for a walk with Taliesin along the less-traveled paths in the mountains. There, you can discover the pagan forces that reside in these sacred places—fountains, forests, megaliths, paths, and clearings. Discuss with Taliesin the traditions, legends, and ancestral memories of this unique “land” in the Breton language. Learn more about the spiritual significance of this sacred site. And, of course, talk about Druidism and contemporary Celtic traditions.
There’s so much to discover around Locronan, which makes it a truly unique place. When it comes to hiking, there are options suitable for everyone’s preferences and levels of exertion.
Thus, during these walks (which take place more in the surrounding areas than within the historic village itself), Taliesin leads visitors to discover the more mundane aspects of Locronan’s landscape. This is done by walking along the paths surrounding the village and up the mountain. For those who are older or less physically fit, Taliesin meets with them at Plas Ar Horn.
It’s an opportunity for you to discover what makes this place unique and special, and why it’s considered a significant site in Brittany. You’ll learn about the narrow paths, the old gold-mining sites, the fountains and megalithic monuments. You’ll also learn about the “sacred” forest of Nevet, and why this granite mountain holds such significance. In short, it’s a chance to appreciate the natural beauty of this mountain, its biodiversity, and the variety of plants that grow here.
It also gives you the opportunity to learn about the history and certain traditions of the Land of the Mountain. The Druid explains the meaning behind these traditions or reveals their pagan origins. You’ll also hear about local legends, as well as those related to nearby sites like Porzay, Sainte-Anne-la-Palud, Douarnenez, and Menez Hom. Of course, it’s also a chance to learn about Brittany and its traditions, to understand the meaning of certain Breton words that appear in place names. Finally, you’ll learn about the Christian ritual of the Grande Troménie, as well as recent research related to the nemeton at Locronan.
Allow at least two hours for each walk.
Here are a few examples of possible walks: a 3-hour tour around the village along the narrow paths; 2 hours spent on Plas Ar Horn (see photo above) and on the lookout point there. There’s also a Druidic-themed tour by vehicle to various interesting locations (minimum 3 hours). Additionally, there are Druidic walks through the Nevet forest.
